Warning functions

Access through: Warning functions

The Warning functions feature of Snow Optimizer for SAP® Software enables you to define warning thresholds for different use cases and receive notifications in warning cases.

Description

Warning functions consist of warning thresholds, notifications, and reports for sending warning messages.

With the warning thresholds, you define in which case and from which number an event occurs, in which a warning case exists. In Notifications, you create extra notification texts that can be sent with warning messages and select the recipients who receive warning messages. If a warning threshold is exceeded or not exceeded, the Send warnings reports send warning messages via SAP mail or email.

note

You can find the notification features in two places in the Snow Optimizer for SAP® Software menu: once in the Cross-functional objects folder and once in the Warning functions folder.

There are warning functions for the following use cases in Snow Optimizer for SAP® Software:

  • User counts per license type

This warning function indicates the exceeding of a specific number of users per license type. The basis for warnings can be loaded user data or the results of a rule set execution including license type recommendations. This warning function can also check for users without a license type assigned or the total number of users.

  • Engine usage

This warning function indicates the exceeding of engine usage numbers. You can define warning thresholds for specific or general engine usage. If necessary, this warning function can also consider engines on clients that are not relevant for system measurement.

    EXAMPLE

This warning threshold for engine usage checks for the usage of unit 0153 / application 0100 from a number of 50.000 and the general use of engines.

    UnitApplicationCount
    0153010050.000
    **0
  • Activity checks

This warning function indicates the exceeding of numbers determined by activity checks. You can select the required activity checks and define thresholds for each one.

Best practice

To get the most out of the Snow Optimizer for SAP® Software warning functions feature, follow the steps below:

  1. Think about the warnings you want to set up for user licenses, engine usage, or activity checks.

  2. Create warning thresholds for your warning cases.

  3. Create notification texts and receiver lists in case a warning threshold is exceeded or not exceeded.

  4. Schedule the required Send warnings reports in the background.
